Kenichi Sasakawa
Viewpoint and Impression

Glass artist Kenichi Sasakawa has taken on ‘vessels’ and has expressed the aesthetic sense that is unique to Japanese culture through vessels, whilst being positioned in the field of contemporary art. In recent years, his craftsman’s side has been in the spotlight, and the blue-gray glassware he makes is becoming more popular. However, his view-point as an artist towards the concept of vessels, both when producing practical works and when producing artworks, is unwavering. While thinking ‘what is beauty?’, he draws on impressions that come to mind and focuses his view-point on them while creating. By doing so, he completes glassware that are conscious of form, the balance of space, practicality, and detail. We hope you can feel his view-point on beauty and hints of those impressions that linger in his works.
