The shape is circular, round, and vibrant. It’s a shape often used in religious ceremonies since ancient times and is also a shape that represents the universe and sky in Buddhist philosophy. Making a round shape with both hands is a start of creation, and a circle holds infinite imagination within. Rando Aso creates earthenware made through burning grass in a field. An earthenware is recovered from ash, where the fire still remains. As the pottery cools after touching the air, it changes its color little by little, and the beautiful texture of the earth which has not been wholly burned enchants us. It creates the impulse in us wanting to touch it. Often, earthenware is talked about in archeological texts, but his works are different and make you feel a refined modern attraction to it. That is because he doesn’t limit earthenware to archeological forms but because he explored how the earthenware he makes should be in this age. Please feel the distinct and soft expressions of the earth, powerfully colored surfaces, and the appeal of the model that makes you feel the circle.
