A tree has decayed due to the action of many natural phenomena, before reaching the hands of the sculptor who polished, shaped it and placed it right here. Even this very form is but a mere moment in the big tide of the tree’s life cycle and will decay over time. It is safe to say that every step of Mamoru Fukui’s production process has a meaning and that his works hold the beauty of the ever-changing things. Those who pick up this work will have a feel of its smooth surface and mass, and will have the chance to reflect upon the memory of time that such a small piece of wood holds.
